The Amrut 8 Years Old Greedy Angels Chairman’s Reserve is a commemorative release celebrating Amrut chairman Neelakanta Jagdale's 60th birthday, first introduced in 2013 and subsequently bottled in 2017. Its moniker, "Greedy Angels," alludes to the angels’ share, a term signifying the evaporation loss during whisky maturation. India's warm climate amplifies this effect, with Amrut experiencing up to a 15% angels’ share annually, far exceeding the norm in cooler climates like Scotland. Crafted from unpeated Indian barley and Scottish peated barley, this limited-edition single malt matures in hand-selected casks before bottling at 50% ABV. With only 1350 bottles in existence, each sip reveals a complexity of honey, vanilla, citrus, tropical fruits, and subtle peat, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and exceptional quality emblematic of Amrut whiskies.
how odd: matured inland, yet distinctly coastal in its light saltiness. This sits wonderfully well with the most delicate of blood orange notes... which after a while sweetens towards a Jaffa cake middle. The spices hint and tease while the vanilla fades in and out, taking turns with thin ulmo honey: perfection;
Soft delivery with the accent at first jointly shared between the barley and vanilla, then the oak takes control moving towards a lightly spiced cocoa. Elsewhere a thin layer of ulmo honey secures the required sweetness;
Some tangy orange returns, a distant echo of spice hangs off the persistent barley oil;
Amrut Distilleries has garnered international acclaim, receiving prestigious awards for its exceptional single malt whiskies.
